Paw Patrol (Counting) Learning Time

I posted a few weeks ago on my instagram stories one of Averi's learning time activities. It was a counting activity with her favorite pups, Paw Patrol.

I received a lot of questions through Instagram about how we do learning time and where I bought this activity from.

First of all, Averi is only 2 1/2 years old so all of her learning time is playing and having fun with a little "learning" integrated into it. Our learning time is usually around 5 minutes long. That's it! It doesn't take forever and she learns a ton! She also has so much fun doing it. At her age right now I don't want it to become a chore and something that she hates. At any point if she starts to get frustrated, loses interest or I start to get frustrated we just put it away and come back to it later. We keep it really short and fun. Learning should be FUN!

The materials I used for this Paw Patrol Counting activity were counting cards from the dollar store. They had a bunch of different popular characters to choose from. A bunch of brown lunch sacks from the dollar store as well. The clothes pins that I used to hold the cards onto the bags I already had. We also had puff balls (pup food) to use as counters. This activity cost me $2.00 and can be reused over and over again as well as with other activities.

I drew ten frames on the bags with counters corresponding to the numbers on the cards. This is helpful for developing number sense within 10 for early counters.
We just lined the bags up against the couch. I explained to her that each pup had a number next to them and that meant how much food that pup needed. If she didn't know the number then we had to count the food in the ten frame to find out what that number was. Each pup needs a different amount of food so they aren't hungry. If we gave them too much food then their tummies would hurt. If we gave them too little then they would still be hungry. Since she can't recognize most written numbers yet, she was counting the ten frames to find out. Then we would look back at the written number on the card to determine how much food (puff balls) that particular pup needed. At that point she would count one at a time and give the pups the right amount of food. She would either put the puff balls inside the bags or just in front of them to feed them.

She had such a fun time with this activity because it had to do with Paw Patrol.

If you have any other questions about our learning time please feel free to ask.
