Miss Averi ~ 6 Months Old

Yesterday this little cutie turned 6 months old!! I can't believe that my baby is 6 months old already! She has been army crawling all around the house since about 5 1/2 months old. I thought I had more time to baby proof. She is getting the cutest little personality. She always wants mommy around. Averi doesn't fight with daddy as much anymore. She loves when daddy kisses and tickles her neck even though she really isn't ticklish ANYWHERE. Her feet, thighs, tummy, sides, back, armpits, and neck aren't ticklish. She takes after mommy with this one.
Her stats at her 6 month check up were
Height: 27 1/2 inches she is in the 97% for height
Weight: 17 lb 3oz she is in the 78% for weight
Head: Her head is in the 81%

  1. Love reading your blog and adventures of your family. Think you were a smart mommy getting her ears pierced now when mommy can care for them, plus she looks so darn cute with little earrings. We did our daughter at this age and everyone loved how cute she looked with little earrings. Averi is soO adorable with those cute little pretty earrings.

Promise in her pictures, she is saying "thank you" for the "gift of pierced ears." This was the perfect age to do them when they can't remember having it done and sweet mommy taking such good care of her adorable little newly pierced ears so she can grow up pretty like her mom.

When I took Sandi to her six month check, and asked about having it done, our ped encouraged me saying this was a good age to do them. In fact, she had so many moms ask her about it, she gave me a sheet with " Tips and Care for moms having their daughter's ears pierced." Would be happy to share with any moms.

    1. Amy, Sorry I totally didn't see your comment until now! I'm still learning how to do this. So many moms are against pierced ears, it was nice to read your comment. I checked out your blog and will have to start following your cute little family! :)

    2. Jessica, thanks for the nice comment. WE may be a minority about having our daughter's ears pierced early. However, before Rick and I had any children we discussed the fact that if we were to have little girls I wanted to get their ears pierced while they were babies. I have always loved seeing earrings on little girls.

I do not compare this to circumcision or tattoos. Earrings can be removed if desired, and even well healed piercings will close. My reasons for piercing early are that I don’t know of any girl or woman who wishes they had never had their ears pierced. Honestly, I’ve asked many many women. Most girls I know who have had their ears pierced when they were old enough to decide ended up getting infections because they were so excited about it they played with them, took them out too early, or they were not cleaned properly. I honestly feel if the ears are pierced as an infant that eliminates a lot of those issues.

My ears were pierced as a baby and I am glad that they were. Not because I don’t remember it hurting, but because my ears were well healed by the time I was old enough to want to change the earrings. At that time, many of my friends were just having their ears pierced and going through lots of pain and infections. I think that society in a way has a little to do with why I feel this way, because in our society it is expected for a woman to wear earrings. Even super crunchy hippy type ladies wear earrings. I think it’s a universal thing, and even women who don’t have their ears pierced will still wear clip-ons. Ultimately it does come down to me making a decision about my child’s body, but I’m confident we both made the right decision.

Sandi got soO many compliments on how cute she was w/earrings. Many moms have stopped me and asked a 100 questions about it. All wished they had pierced their daughter's ears early like we did. Interestingly many of the same moms who advised me to wait are calling me one by one asking for our ped's suggestions. The first thing said,"...Amy, I was wrong about you having Sandi's ears pierced early. The second is, "...can I have your ped's suggestions for moms having their daughter's ears pierced?" Sandi, like Averi looks totally adorable with cute little earrings and the same moms want their daughters to look cute too... Go figure.

Would be happy to send a picture if you like.
